Ju Jitsu Mitteleuropa " Jubilee: 50th Anniversary of the WJJF/WJJKO 1976
7 Dec 2025 by Patrick Hickey
This is a major Jujitsu symposium that occurs each year, but this is their 50th Anniversary, so it will be an important event. Hanshi Anderson and Spartaco Bertoletti were friends, and we maintain open communication with them.
If anyone is interested in attending, please let me know.
" Ju Jitsu Mitteleuropa " Jubilee: 50th Anniversary of the WJJF/WJJKO 1976
Date: October 1-4, 2026
Location: Grado (Friuli Venezia Giulia – Italy)
Dear Friends, Soke, Shihan, Shidoin, Sensei, it looks like we're almost there!
The Jubilee for the 50th Anniversary of the WJJF/WJJKO 1976, in the Year of the "Horse," according to the Chinese horoscope, will be held in:
Grado Mitteleuropa
From the Legions of Rome to Attila the "Scourge of God"
We decided against the previously proposed dates (either mid-June or the last week of September) because we didn't want to divide the Family and, in this way, we can accommodate those with other professional commitments.
We hope that the chosen date will help everyone be with us!
Let's not forget that we were born in November 1976, and October/November have always been the months of our Congresses.
Most of the editions were held in the UK rain!
I hope we'll be in the sun in Grado, "just one degree warmer!"

What's on in Friuli
Grado is a tourist and spa town, also known as "the first Venice" for its history and origins linked to the birth of Venetian civilization.
Aquileia was founded in 181 BC. Founded as a Roman colony by the Roman triumvirs Lucius Manlius Acidinus, Publius Scipio Nasica, and Gaius Flaminius, sent by the Senate to block the path of the barbarians threatening the eastern borders of Italy, the city initially grew as a military base for campaigns against the Histri, and against various peoples, including the Carni, and then for Roman expansion towards the Danube.
During classical antiquity, it was a large city with an estimated population of close to 100,000 inhabitants in the 2nd century AD. A Roman colony founded in 181 BC, it was the capital of the 10th Augustan region and the metropolis of the Christian church. In late antiquity, the city was the first on the Italian peninsula to be sacked by Attila, King of the Huns. Together with Ravenna and Brescia, it is the most important archaeological site[12] in northern Italy and, together with Cividale del Friuli and Udine, it was one of the historical capitals of Friuli, whose flag derives from the coat of arms of Aquileia.
Aquileia is famous for its Roman archaeological site, its early Christian floor mosaics, and its historical role as an important center of the Roman Empire and a hub for the spread of Christianity in Northern and Eastern Europe. It is also known as the "Second Rome" for the grandeur of its ancient buildings, including the forum and river port.
Venice, the capital of the Veneto region, is nestled on more than 100 small islands within a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. This city has no streets, only canals, including the Grand Canal, lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. In the central square, Piazza San Marco, stand St. Mark's Basilica, adorned with Byzantine mosaics, and St. Mark's Campanile, from which you can admire the city's red roofs.
Trieste is the capital of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, in northeastern Italy. A port city, it occupies a thin strip of land between the Adriatic and the Slovenian border, running along the limestone Karst plateau. Italian, Austro-Hungarian, and Slovenian influences are evident throughout the city, which includes a medieval historic center and a neoclassical quarter from the Austrian era.
Get ready! And with our optimistic spirit, we would like to open this 50th Jubilee to all those who, in one way or another, for valid reasons or not, with or without blue jackets, have left us – apart from a few “snakes.”
It will and must be a "Fiftieth" to remember.
With respect.
